SimPE 0.73.44 QA for everyone

April 11th, 2009

This QA has been stable for a long period, and I think it is safe to offer it generally. It’s a 7Z and will require manually unarchiving into its own folder and running from SimPE.exe (or you make your own shortcut). Remember to change what runs (your file association) when you double-click on a .package file. If you don’t know how to do that, then start SimPE before using File/Open to open your packages.

Warning for people who edit sims and hoods in SimPE

September 7th, 2008

It has come to my attention that some people have misunderstood how to make and restore game backups, and have been trying to use SimPE’s .bak files to fix problems. The .bak files should only be used to restore an object, recolour or hack you have been working on - never ever your game data! Game data includes anything in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods, such as Sims, Lots, Hoods etc. Even if it a mistake you made just that moment in editing a sim in SimPE, and you haven’t played in between times, you still need to go back to a proper full backup, because you may miss out one of the files that has been affected by your edit, and your data will be out of sync.

A safe backup is a complete copy of an entire Neighborhood folder and its contents - eg My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Neighborhoods\N001, and to restore safely from that, you need to first completely delete the folder you are replacing so that any new files that were made during your last play session are gone. Simply overwriting the folder is not safe.

You can do the above manually, or you can use SimPE’s backup manager, in the Neighborhood Browser.

Future releases of SimPE will not have automatic .bak creation on by default, to try and avoid any more confusion

Support for Kitchen & Bath

May 11th, 2008

We just released an updated Version of SimPE, that adds Support for the new The Sims 2 Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff Pack. Inge and Peter also updated the FileTable to recognize Numenors new CEP folder structure.

This Version also introduces several fixes and changes to the SimPE internals.

From this Release on, the installer will always perform a clean install. That means it will remove your caches and custom settings from the Data Folder. This decision was made, because quite a few Bug Reports were related to conflicting settings, left behind by the old installer. In turn, this means that after installing a new SimPe, you need to adjust your preferences back to your liking.
